Grand finale @ The Bloomfield Coffee House. My Dad, step Mom and I attended the last Bloomfield Coffee House in the aging school. Good friends of mine Mike Doyle & Mike Nahirnak were in concert and Mike Doyle was in the spotlight. He has been raising money for a family in need. A mother of two had been diagnosed with cancer and the ebb and flow of life was not swaying in their favor.
Mike Doyle set out to raise $1000 and in the first day of fundraising he exceeded the goal. Setting out with a new goal Mike began to raffle tickets while growing his hair out for donation to wigs for cancer patients. The tickets morally supported Mike in continuing to grow his hair out and served as an end prize to a randomly selected contributor. The prize? You get to cut the ribbon so to speak 🙂 You get to cut to pony tail and usher in a new era of hair!
Mike has inspired me to grow out my own hair to donate. Being on a fixed income at the moment (and not the only one) it provides me with a way to contribute without putting myself into financial hardship.
The crowd at Bloomfield was large, the largest I have ever seen. You can see in the above photo Dalhousie Nuroscience and Psychology members were also present. They made a very favorable contribution to the The Canadian Mental Health Foundation @ $6457.10
The Coffee House was a huge success. Fitting as a last hurrah for this soon to be retired community hub. It will be a loss to the community for sure and programs will need to find new spaces. Some know where they are going and others not soo sure. But you can be sure the community will step up when the time comes to find new homes for integral programs.
