Reading the paper this morning, something I’ve been doing lately in an effort to stay connected with the community. I read the article you see in the above photo. “Residents gather to debate future of St. Patrick’s” Last I read about this project in the Globe (I think it was) the property was slated for redux. The space was going to be turned into a mall, street lvl store fronts and offices with a plaza. The existing structure was going to be used.
According to this new article the people have spoken and it looks like they will perhaps pursue a more cost effective means of utilizing this space. The estimated cost of bringing the building up to code would be bout 10 Million. The idea is to clear the property and sell it at market value 6.76 Million.
My favorite part of the article, the community has spoken up and voiced loudly that they want to see this space utilized by the community. Keeping “green space and arts as top priorities” …
The part I am working on understanding and have always been perplexed by is why do I always here about these community gatherings AFTER they happen. Who’s radar do I need to be on, what do I need to be reading or what mailing list do I need to subscribe to so I can be heard also as a voice in the community. I’m not satisfied with just being a listener!
