Photo Op; in the basement there is…

Title; in the basement. Photography by Ross W © 2015

There is a thing in the basement, it goes bump sometimes. Sometimes; the pipes shudder and the taps leak. Whirring and humming noises stumble out of the shadows as the pumps and heaters secretly labor for the upstairs world…

I grew up in a house that in the beginning our basement had a dirt floor, it was dark even with the lights on. The only access was a spooky staircase with no banister. Spiders and beetles, earwigs of unimaginable size (to a child) lurked ready to pounce. The above photo was taken in the basement of my current building. This is a small room where the piping comes in from the pump and the hot water heater. I found the long shadows of the copper pipe familiar and the abandoned bottle lightly covered in sand; seems like it was teleported here, never touched by human hands. This photo brought back a rush of memories, home. Mom & Dad. Life.

Aries; The Logic will set you free

When my Life & the Stars collide (Pt. 37)

horoscope-aries-tattoo-designSource: horoscope.com | July 16, 2015

Recent spiritual breakthroughs might have you feeling both exhilarated and downcast, Aries. Your sensitive side tells you that this is a definite step forward on your spiritual path, but the logical side might cause you to doubt its reality. Take comfort in the fact that reality is relative and that what you’re sensing is at least valid for you. Then keep moving ahead.

I don’t know if recent life breakthroughs have been spiritual or not. But I can sure as hell tell you that my skepticism is in full swing. In the past 24 Hrs feelings of exhilaration paired with the witnessing of deceit have downcast me into a pit of logic. My sensitive side says strap on the suit of armour, bury my spirit deep and embrace the serenity of sound decision making. I have no doubt that life may teach lessons intended to diversify our spiritual side. Life also teaches us lessons that exposure to extreme elements may harm both our physical bodies and the metaphysical mind. Life right now is delivering me a very real sign. Bunker down and push forward regardless of external elements. The warning signs are valid and I am standing in the eye of the storm. One more battle and I will rise victorious!

recovery Day X; Satisfaction Guaranteed

When I unplugged my recovery support unit…

I found a whole new world. I am back to work now, most anyone that reads my blog knows I’m now working in the bike industry again. And… I LOVE IT!

I know transitioning is hard, I did it slow. I set 3 Goals, part time work (started at the QEII) then two part time jobs within 6 Months to a Year (I was hired on with FRED 6 Months after the QEII) I then worked for FRED and IDEALBIKES for another 3 – 6 Months and now recovery Day X lands directly on top of full time employment with IDEALBIKES.

I love it, I love my co-workers & my employer is amazing. I mean all workplaces have their hiccups and I am not always the most passive person making grinding gears a touch more common BUT… There is very little stress thanks to the management style of my employer.

I never thought this is where life would land me. I made a plan though, I sat down with my councilors. We started with the simple stuff, wake up in the morning. Shower, brush your teeth. Leave the house and be productive. Every Day! Even if your productivity yields the smallest of rewards.

And you know, I had set backs. I made mistakes. I lapsed once. I learned my life lessons. Here I am, standing at the gates of achievement. The gates have opened and I see nothing but endless opportunity. And it all starts with setting a small goal in the shadow of a bigger picture.

Don’t be scared, step out into the world… But walk at your own pace. Success comes in all shapes and sizes. Be kind to yourself and live to the maximum potential your situation permits. Satisfaction Guaranteed 😉

Wednesday night @ Connections the Art Group was small and we decided to break out the water based paints and have a ton of fun. Or at least I had a ton of fun lol. I love to finger paint, or paint with strange objects ie: I once painted an ink abstract with an Avocado shell. Or sometimes I use fabric swatches, paint the face and use the resulting abstract shapes to construct realistic environments.

Point is, I have fun 🙂

Aries; Its a Full Moon?

When my Life & the Stars collide (Pt. 23)

horoscope-aries-tattoo-designSource; Metro | May 4 / 2015 | IT’S ALL IN THE STARS by Sally Brompton

Don’t worry about today’s full moon. If you think positive then all will be well. But be ready for one or two emotional outbursts from people who get easily frustrated with lifes little setbacks.

I’m thinking about starting a poll, something that I can enter yes or no was my horoscope relevant. Then I can track the ratio of the reading being on point or completely off in left field. Thats really why I’m doing this experiment / project.

Sally Bromptons reading, not relevant at all. I didn’t even know it was a full moon, and I’ve only ever encountered a handful of strange full moon occurrences in my entire life (31 Yrs) … Not to mention that I spend the majority of my time around people that have mental health disorders. Often they are living in poverty and experiencing the worst life has to throw at them with zero affluence to soften the blow. Emotions run deep in their lives and I did not encounter a single person today that was having an “outburst” … In fact most of the people I encountered were in a great mood and a few of us at Connections Halifax got together and baked cookies.

“Spiritual and metaphysical concepts may seem murky to you today, Aries. Ideas that friends accept as matters of course might feel strange. Don’t get into an argument. Ask about books, websites, or magazines that you can consult for more input and, hopefully, clarity. Find out about future lectures on the subject. It should all come together eventually. You just need to be patient!”

I don’t know who writes the daily readings at horoscope.com but this one pretty much explains my entire life in a nutshell lol. This could be any given day of the week. Its a pretty broad stroke and in general good advice. I’m always interested in the spiritual and metaphysical concepts of others but I have my own beliefs that are soo deeply entrenched… I don’t even know who I really am.

Living With Ghosts by Brandt Eisner

Medium here is Vintage Bullet Shells & Wire, pretty simple ingredients but the outcome is stunning! There was a lot of traditional art hanging on the walls. Square paintings from local artists of rather square things, houses and objects ect. But this caught my eye, and held my eye for a long time. Whatever the intrigue, Great Job Brandt Eisner. I think this is pretty awesome.

You like excitement but you need security too and the planets in some way remind you today that matters of a business and financial nature must not be neglected. Have fun by all means but keep an eye on your cash too.

Ahh haha, well I doo like excitement. Security tho, maybe sometime in the future. Right now I feel like the only security going on here is that the “planets” don’t collide. I do work and I’m back at the bike shop, plus my other job with FRED Style. But I think its safe to say anyone in the slowly dwindling middle class always have something to this effect on their mind.

I just had a birthday on the 11th and of course a little spending was on the books, but the reality of choice in my financial position is make a decision between what I need and what I need. Want is something I very seldom engage.

On the plus side… Life is simple. And I like that.

It seems you can’t put a wrong foot wrong at this moment but you know from long experience not to take things like that for granted. Enjoy life but watch where you tread.

I will tell you no lie, in life I am like a fucking squirrel lol. I mostly enjoy life in a sure footed manner much like a squirrel, masterly hopping thru my environment. But yes from “long experience” more than I care for at my age (31) its not enough to just watch where you tread. You need to get ur mad squirrel on. You ever see even the most tame squirrel, chillin on the bench just eating the bits of lunch you’re sharing with him. Try to make a move on that squirrel, all you will see is fur and lightning. Hell, you might not see anything. Just there, then gone.

The California Gold Rush hit its peak between 1849 and 1855. Three hundred thousand adventurers flocked to America’s west coast in search of gold. In the early days, gold nuggets were lying around on the ground in plain sight, or relatively easy to find in gravel beds at the bottom of streams. But later prospectors had to work harder, developing methods to extract the gold from rocks that contained it. One way to detect the presence of the precious metal was through the use of nitric acid, which corroded any substance that wasn’t gold. The term “acid test” refers to that process. I bring this to your attention, Aries, because it’s a good time for you to use the metaphorical version of an acid test as you ascertain whether what you have discovered is truly golden.

Reading this it made me kinda think of my generation and the state of the job market. As prospectors, my generation has to work much harder to find that sliver of gold. The job banks are full of dead ends, pyramid schemes, and employment options that will barely pay a living wage. Not just anyone can walk up on the economy and pick a gold nugget up, work loyally for 35-40 Yrs and retire with confidence like my Dad’s generation can. You guys know I work and I really love what I do. Thankfully. Without that, maybe in the future I’ll need to conjure up some of this metaphorical acid in an effort to discover my truly golden opportunity and secure my independance from this broken social system.

You have no intention of giving in just because someone in a position of power is on your case. Anyone who thinks you will just roll over and play dead today will learn the hard way that you can bite as well as bark.

Today specifically I didn’t bite or bark at anyone. I really don’t mind confrontation these days. It used to really stress me out, but its one of those things. Ya do it long enough and your emotions tend to become a little calloused. Skepticism sets in and a person kinda learns to scrutinize everything. Eventually you learn to dig your heels in early. Bark when provoked, bite when necessary.

I’ll be honest, 99% of the time its not persons in a position of power that get on my case. Its persons that think they are in a position of power. Patience and Experience are key in divining when you up against real power or an inflated ego.
