When my Life & the Stars collide (Pt. 36)

“Turn your energy inward today, Aries. Make a detailed list of what you need to get done in order of priority. It’s time to take inventory and get organized. Detail-oriented projects are favored, and you have much more patience and concentration than usual. Slow down the pace and remember to smell the roses as you pass by.”
Ah, I didn’t get to making an actual list but… I just spent the last three days fending off a bug of some sort and there is nothing I hate more these days than sitting still. I’m back to work tomorrow and I could not be happier. I’ve been making a list in my head of things to address, follow up on and complete.
I also have a spreadsheet that I track it all on (Thank You Google Sheets). A little life lesson I learned from a good friend in an old bike shop. Getting projects off the ground and keeping things in order, prioritized. Starts with good record keeping. Oh and how to sell bikes. And… fix them. Sorta.
My Zen has been off for the last few days but this evening I feel things are slowing down. I’m finding myself paying attention to the little parts of a big picture. Time to put this hiccup behind me and get back to business.
When I unplugged my recovery support unit…
I found a whole new world. I am back to work now, most anyone that reads my blog knows I’m now working in the bike industry again. And… I LOVE IT!
I know transitioning is hard, I did it slow. I set 3 Goals, part time work (started at the QEII) then two part time jobs within 6 Months to a Year (I was hired on with FRED 6 Months after the QEII) I then worked for FRED and IDEALBIKES for another 3 – 6 Months and now recovery Day X lands directly on top of full time employment with IDEALBIKES.
I love it, I love my co-workers & my employer is amazing. I mean all workplaces have their hiccups and I am not always the most passive person making grinding gears a touch more common BUT… There is very little stress thanks to the management style of my employer.
I never thought this is where life would land me. I made a plan though, I sat down with my councilors. We started with the simple stuff, wake up in the morning. Shower, brush your teeth. Leave the house and be productive. Every Day! Even if your productivity yields the smallest of rewards.
And you know, I had set backs. I made mistakes. I lapsed once. I learned my life lessons. Here I am, standing at the gates of achievement. The gates have opened and I see nothing but endless opportunity. And it all starts with setting a small goal in the shadow of a bigger picture.
Don’t be scared, step out into the world… But walk at your own pace. Success comes in all shapes and sizes. Be kind to yourself and live to the maximum potential your situation permits. Satisfaction Guaranteed 😉

Working in the shop I see all different kinds of corrosive effects on bike equipment. And honestly most of it comes in the most brilliant arrays of color. This is a bottom bracket out of an old old bike in for a tune up. I love the brilliant orange colour of the rust! I see this happen and sometimes its yellow, green or blue and the brightest colors!

Sundown in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Walking past the Historical Properties on the waterfront I see an abandoned building. The building once housed the Dragon King Buffet, a nightclub for a short time and some startup for LAN Gaming very very briefly. The signage on the building is a sort of sheet brass or polished steel and holds a near perfect reflection of the adjacent lamp post.
I like that the brass/polish gives it the impression of an aged photo, with maybe some artifacts that came forward during exposure, or perhaps water damage. A favorite picture trapped in the pages of those old photo albums with the adhesive film. The lantern’s light seems to be trapped perfectly, a glowing ember in. By far one of my favorite photos yet. I only had to tweak the brightness a little & crop it.

Wednesday night @ Connections the Art Group was small and we decided to break out the water based paints and have a ton of fun. Or at least I had a ton of fun lol. I love to finger paint, or paint with strange objects ie: I once painted an ink abstract with an Avocado shell. Or sometimes I use fabric swatches, paint the face and use the resulting abstract shapes to construct realistic environments.
Point is, I have fun 🙂

Adventuring through my neighborhood I found these flood lights on the ground. They are all housed in cages and in various states of disrepair. I thought to myself though, what a novel thing… To cage in a light. The physical body of the light sits in this cage, in the day. At night the light turns on and the beam transcends it’s cage to fill the wide open spaces of the night. Bleaching out the darkness. Really a beautiful thing even if it is bent and broken in body.

“You may be impatient to make things happen but the planets warn you must not move too fast. There is no need to rush: everything that is meant to happen will happen at the proper time. It’s how you react to events that matter.”
Well, I consider this reading to be about the most broad stroke of lazy ass writing a person can come up with. But I’ll tell you of what it reminds me of. Matthew 6:33 “Keep on, then, seeking first the kingdom and his righteousness, and all these [other] things will be added to you.” That is from the bible, just in case ya didn’t know. I have mentioned on this blog a few times that my life history is deeply intertwined with religion. And though I don’t practice any longer, I still see the message hidden everywhere. Basically what both of these pieces of writing have to say is STAY THE COURSE, TIME and UNFORESEEN OCCURRENCES befall US ALL. KEEP CALM, if it’s not meant to be now… Maybe later when your really ready for it. Either God, the stars, Allah or Buddha, whatever you subscribe to will ADD it to YOU.

“Sometimes rushing the decision making process can backfire, dude.“
Sally, you could take a lesson from Mr. Astro Guide. If your gonna broadstroke it, less words more awesome. Dude.
